About Sloan Ventures
Specialist Conviction Enduring Impact
Clinical Need
Enabling Technology
Business Economics
Sloan Ventures is a specialist venture capital firm focused on high-impact medical devices that have the potential to transform the practice of medicine and improve patient outcomes. Our partnership brings together over 300 years of combined experience across medical-device development, clinical practice, regulatory approval, commercialization, company building, and investing.
01
Our Origin
It takes a village
Sloan Ventures was founded around a simple observation: successful medical-device investing requires much more than capital. It requires the ability to understand clinical need, evaluate complex technologies, navigate regulatory and commercial pathways, and help companies execute through the milestones that create value.
It takes an entire medical-device ecosystem to move from invention to patient impact.
Our approach reflects decades spent alongside clinicians, entrepreneurs, engineers, operators, and investors working to bring medical devices from concept to clinical use.
Sloan looks for under-recognized opportunities where specialization reveals value at entry—and integrated expertise helps crystallize that value after investment.
It takes a small village to build a world-class medical-device company. Clinical validation, product development, regulatory strategy, reimbursement, manufacturing, market access, financing, physician adoption, and strategic positioning must all advance together. Few founding teams can—or should be expected to—navigate that journey alone.
We also learned that medical devices demand a different kind of investment judgment. In many sectors, an excellent team can change direction repeatedly. In medical devices, the choice of enabling technology can commit a company to a clinical, regulatory, and commercial pathway that is difficult and costly to change. The work must therefore begin with a rigorous understanding of the unmet clinical need and whether the technology is the right solution.
Sloan Ventures was created to apply that specialist perspective in a more collaborative, networked, and responsive investment model. We contribute our own experience and mobilize talent across the broader medical-device ecosystem—connecting founders with the expertise and relationships each stage of development requires.
The entire village
One company. A connected ecosystem of expertise
Sloan Ventures helps founders assemble the specialized capabilities required at each stage—inside the company and across a trusted international network.
01
Start with the clinical need
We begin with the problem clinicians and patients need solved, then assess whether the enabling technology is truly suited to the task.
02
Bring the whole ecosystem
Medical devices are not built by founders alone. Progress depends on clinicians, engineers, regulatory and reimbursement experts, manufacturers, strategic partners, investors, and commercial leaders working together.
03
Think globally, act locally
Every market has its own clinical practices, regulatory pathways, reimbursement systems, and adoption challenges. International experience matters from the outset.
02 Our Mission
We seek medical-device companies capable of materially improving patient care while building sustainable, defensible businesses
We begin with the problem clinicians and patients need solved, then assess whether the enabling technology is truly suited to the task.
03 Our Vision
A future in which transformative medical devices reach patients faster—improving and saving lives at meaningful scale while creating enduring value
We aim to build enduring companies that advance clinical practice in cardiology, neurology, and surgical oncology. Over time, we will hold ourselves accountable not only for financial performance, but also for two measures of purpose: lives impacted and lives saved.
Why these fields
Close to patients. Personal to us
Cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, and cancer touch almost every family. They are deeply personal to members of our team and our investors, and they represent areas where better diagnostic and therapeutic devices can materially change the course of care. That combination of human need and technological possibility defines our focus.
